What Does a Media Director Do?

The Media Director provides strategic guidance and oversight of day-to-day operations across a portfolio of media accounts. They oversee media planning and buying, act as the client's voice of experience, and manage a team of direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the media lead for an oncology business portfolio.
  • Lead development of strategic media programs for DTC and HCP campaigns.
  • Deeply understand client operations, goals, and challenges.
  • Apply media knowledge to solve client business problems, maximizing ROI.
  • Mobilize teams to initiate and execute necessary work streams.
  • Collaborate with senior-level SMEs and Account teams.
  • Oversee communication with clients and key contacts.
  • Manage high-profile vendor relationships and contract negotiations.
  • Identify organic growth opportunities for existing accounts.
  • Manage financial aspects and staff planning.
  • Coach and develop direct reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of media campaign tasks.
  • Manage up effectively to VP (where applicable).
  • Identify and address staff and team structure issues.
  • Act as a point of escalation within the team.
  • Manage team resources to maximize billability.
  • Lead new business opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technology, assisting with internal materials.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong media acumen and working knowledge of paid media channels.
  • 10+ years of media account management experience.
  • Expertise across digital and non-digital media channels, HCP and DTC target audiences.
  • Comfortable as the primary client resource (supported by SMEs).
  • Financial management and staff planning experience.
  • Media campaign analysis and optimization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong staff management experience.
  • PowerPoint and Excel proficiency.
  • Ability to communicate complex media concepts.
  • Cross-channel media strategy, planning, and buying experience.
  • Contract negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of syndicated 3rd-party research tools.
  • Excellent meeting leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and presentation skills.
  • Desire to learn and build upon existing capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple details and projects.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate team.
