Purpose of role: To ensure accurate & timely information to support multiple UK / Ireland based payroll schemes. Working with support of an external provider (ADP) and internal HR teams to ensure all accounting, statutory and tax reporting deadlines both monthly & annually are complied with. With your strong end to end payroll & pension knowledge be a lead contact for internal & external audits and drive continuous improvements in reporting & accounting for payroll reconciliations. In addition, the role will support compliance with employee share schemes, BIK reporting, Short Term Business visitor reporting and support the UK & Fleet Finance leader with ad-hoc financial accounting matters.Reports to UK & Fleet Finance Leader Location: Peterborough / Hybrid / Remote
Main Responsibilities:
- Support monthly payroll processes in the extraction of data to create accounting documents in co-ordination with internal & outsourced providers before posting.
- Be a key contact in the reconciliation of all payroll control accounts and ensuring suitable accounting postings are maintained in line with group and local standards.
- Be a financial lead in the creation of annual payroll processes such as P60, P11D, PSA and ERS returns and be responsible for submissions to HMRC.
- Have accountability for HMRC gateway accounts and ensure they align with our accounting records and familiarity with making any required employee changes.
- Liaise with UK based HR teams and group accounting teams ensuring the UK needs are addressed in global systems and process developments.
- Be the lead financial partner and work closer with senior HR members in a project to review and extend our payrolling of benefits in kind especially company cars.
- Have scope to review, challenge and streamline payroll reporting and support ad- hoc requests including recommendations for new software solutions for benefit in Kind record keeping.
- Maintain the UK payroll account mappings in compliance with local legislation and group policy.
- Maintain short term business visa compliance for the UK and employee share scheme accounting along with assisting HR in the management of company car records to ensure BIK reports / P46 returns are accurate and align with HR records and usage by employees.
- Support the UK & Fleet Finance Leader with other ad-hoc accounting tasks as required inclusive of supporting in the preparation of annual financial/ statutory accounts and maintenance of UK local lease accounting.
Qualifications required to do this role:
- Educated to degree level (preferred)
- Minimum 3 A Levels (essential)
- Qualified CIPP (preferred) and or accounting qualification with payroll specialism/experience.
Experience required to do this role:
- Minimum 3 years’ senior level experience of end to end payroll exposure and accounting maybe within a payroll bureau environment.
- Technically able and up to date with legislation for UK / Ireland payroll & Pensions.
- Knowledge and experience of working with outsourced providers and adhering to deadlines.
- Understanding of the accounting entries to support payroll and confident in creating reconciliations.
Skills required to do this role:
- Extensive knowledge of UK Payroll & Pension regulations including end of year reporting, salary sacrifice, employee share schemes and Benefits in Kind (especially company-car reporting regulations)
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace (Sheets) (including VLOOKUP/pivots and data extraction and analysis tools)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of SAP would be an advantage
