Payroll Manager ensures smooth and accurate payroll processing, maintaining compliance with tax and employment laws.
- Payroll Processing: Accurate and timely processing of employee timesheets and salaries; all adjustments processed accurately and on time; employee change processing (new hires, compensation, time changes, terminations) accurately; compliant payslips and timely sharing; employee payroll data maintenance and updates; accurate leave balances, superannuation, and other employee benefits; alignment with HR records; employee education on payroll needs for timely processing; relevant audits, checks, and balances; minimized overpayments and repayment schedule management.
- Compliance and reporting: State and Federal tax obligations (PAYG tax, Payroll tax, Workcover, Superannuation Guarantee contributions) processed accurately and submitted timely; keeping updated on relevant awards, legislation, and regulations; assistance with annual reporting requirements; accurate employee records maintained; payroll information filed and archived securely.
- Payroll Enquiries: Handling employee payroll inquiries, providing guidance and resolving payroll issues promptly.
- Continuous Improvement: Reviewing payroll configuration for improvements, automation, efficiency, and reporting/reconciliation; partnering with teams in system upgrade testing and implementation; review of payroll processes to reduce errors and non-compliance; simplification of payroll practices.
- People Leadership: Leading a high-performing team; providing clear leadership, direction, and support to employees; ensuring a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities; empowerment and growth of staff through mentorship, coaching, and professional development; effective delegation of responsibilities and management of team performance for departmental and individual goals; experienced in managing a large and diverse workforce (ideally 500+ employees).
Essential Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and multiple awards/enterprise agreements.
- Solid experience in using Employment Hero
- Strong technical understanding and experience using Employment Hero.
- Ability to manage multiple payrolls with accuracy and compliance.
- Strong understanding of tax compliance, superannuation, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with end-to-end payroll processing (including pay runs, adjustments, leave entitlements, and statutory reporting).
- Remote environment experience; strong communication skills and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive employee data with discretion.
