Job Details
We are seeking a qualified Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to join our team. This position requires a full-time individual to ensure the safety and health of the workforce, complying with EM 385-1-1 and other regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety policies align with regulations (EM 385-1-1).
- Maintain SSHO role as full-time, no conflicting responsibilities.
- Ensure SSHO presence during all work activities. An alternate SSHO with equivalent qualifications is required if absent for over 24 hours.
- Report to senior project/corporate officials.
- Conduct job site, equipment, and material inspections to identify hazards.
- Ensure worker safety indoctrination, and facilitate safety meetings and training (weekly worker, monthly supervisor).
- Ensure EM 385-1-1 compliance (APP, AHA, toolbox talks).
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis, develop mitigation strategies.
- Maintain SSHO training (40-hour initial, 8-hour annual refresher).
- Lead accident, near-miss, and safety incident investigations, creating prevention plans.
- Ensure incident documentation and corrective action implementation.
- Develop and enforce Accident Prevention Plans for each contract.
- Develop and deliver safety training to employees and contractors, ensuring EM 385-1-1 compliance.
- Maintain training records and ensure worker access to safety documentation.
- Oversee emergency response plans (evacuation, first-aid, equipment accessibility).
- Conduct regular emergency drills.
- Ensure clear incident/emergency reporting channels.
- Conduct frequent inspections to ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 standards and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed safety records (meetings, inspections, incident reports, training).
- Ensure compliance with documentation requirements for audits, risk assessments, and investigations.
- Keep records of PPE usage, training, and equipment inspections.
- Promote a safety culture.
- Ensure workers identify and mitigate hazards, and understand safety importance.
- Collaborate with vendors/contractors on safety standards.
- Ensure contractors receive necessary training and understand job site hazards and emergency procedures.
- Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory authorities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health & Safety Management, or related field.
- Relevant certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus.
- Security clearance (required for some positions, company sponsors)
- Minimum 5 years construction industry safety experience or 3 years with CSP/safety degree.
- 40-hour EM 385-1-1 training course and annual 8-hour refresher.
- 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety class or equivalent.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (accommodations available).
- Full-time on-site presence during all work operations.
- Proven experience developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including EM 385-1-1.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

- Travel: Up to 50% nationally and internationally
- Salary Range: $120,000-$135,000
