Job Details
Senior Optical Assistant will support the DESP Management Team with training and development of the screening/grading team.
Assist with daily team coordination and programme performance improvements. Hybrid role between Cork office and home working.
Ensure delivery of role in line with national standards, providing excellent screening service and reducing new blindness.
Regularly screen patients, adhering to company policy and national guidance, ensuring skills and service are maintained to the highest standard.
Act as model retinal technician and lead by example.
Oversee induction and training of new staff locally and support process in other teams.
Undertake and review skills/competency assessments for all retinal technicians, ensuring compliance at least twice yearly.
Undertake annual appraisals for team members and support other team members' appraisals.
Maintain and manage programme equipment, ensuring technical maintenance policies are followed and quality images are produced.
Coordinate reporting of equipment faults or failures to relevant personnel.
Maintain staff rota, assist with administration tasks, coordinate and record staff leave, submit monthly requirements (including team expenses).
Manage, develop, and organize a team of Diabetic Retinal Technicians, and oversee their performance.
Support Programme Manager/Team Leader to ensure achievement of service objectives and KPIs, including training and competency of the workforce.
Direct impact on organization reputation with stakeholders.
Essential experience: Diabetic Retinopathy Screening.
Ideally: Higher certificate in Diabetic Retinal Screening or similar.
Minimum qualifications: Pass Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
Required skills: People management skills, team leadership, IT literacy, information governance knowledge.
Capability: Work largely unsupervised, but with close supervision responsibility for other clinical staff.
Important attributes: Initiative, prioritization skills, problem-solving skills, openness, communication skills.
Essential documents: Proof of EU right to work and travel, full clean Irish driving license.
