Full-Time Senior UX Designer

About Aquia Inc.: Aquia is a digital services firm specializing in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance automation. Seeking a Senior UX Designer to join a cross-functional agile team working to improve the VA digital disability benefits experience. This role is key to the VA Benefits Portfolio.

Responsibilities:

• Lead design of user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes aligning with VA.gov standards.
• Conduct and synthesize user research and usability testing to validate design decisions.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are feasible and implementable.
• Partner with content designers, product managers, and researchers to co-create holistic solutions.
• Ensure the Veteran experience is clear, compassionate, and equitable.
• Mentor junior UX designers.
• Contribute to and help evolve the design system and platform documentation.
• Maintain well-organized design artifacts (Figma, Mural).
• Participate in agile delivery cycles (sprint planning, retrospectives).
• Build strong relationships across VA.gov partner teams.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of UX/product/service design experience for complex applications.
• Expertise in human-centered design, interaction design, and usability best practices.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design process.
• Experience designing for accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508).
• Familiarity with Figma, Mural, user testing frameworks, and collaborative agile tools.
• Proven ability to communicate design rationale and advocate for user needs.
• Empathy for Veterans and commitment to improving public services.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Federal digital service design experience.
• Familiarity with the VA.gov platform.
• Background in benefits, healthcare, or claims workflows.

Compensation: $125,000 - $160,000 USD
