RetailNext is seeking to expand its SRE team. We need skilled backend developers focused on operational excellence for our SaaS retail analytics solution.
We process data from thousands of brick-and-mortar stores to help our clients understand and serve their customers better. We primarily develop in Go, utilizing technologies including Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, gRPC, Kafka, Pub/Sub/SQS, and more. We also maintain legacy codebases in Ruby, NodeJS, Java, and C++.
This role involves operationalizing new features, ensuring application stability, and improving development/deployment workflows. It includes on-call responsibilities within the backend team.
Past SRE projects include bringing cloud resources under Terraform management, migrating from StatsD to Prometheus, and rewriting application telemetry collection from deployed sensors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Go, NodeJS, Ruby, etc.)
- Familiarity with Linux (FHS, cgroups, etc.)
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and languages
- Proficient in debugging and resolving issues in third-party open-source software
- Meticulous attention to security and reliability
- Experience in an SRE, DevOps, or Release Engineering role
Bonus Points:
- Experience re-architecting distributed applications for improved scalability and reliability
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Experience operating Cassandra in a production environment
- Experience with cloud infrastructure providers (GCE and EC2)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
Work Environment: Remote-first, hybrid. 90-day work-from-anywhere option annually. Autonomy, flexible scheduling, and career growth opportunities are valued.
