Director of Group Sales

Under the general guidance of the Director of Sales & Marketing, responsible for directing, coordinating, training, and supervising the Group Sales Managers in all sales-related activities.

Responsible for assisting in the creation of strategies and the direct oversight of the execution of plans and tactics used to focus on increasing direct revenue for the property.

Responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that revenues meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits, and to improve the hotel’s performance in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Direct and manage all group sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel
  2. Develop sales plans and strategies to meet or exceed established revenue and room night goals
  3. Collaborate with the DOSM to develop rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies
  4. Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel group sales staff
  5. Oversee departmental matters related to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws
  6. Participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings
  7. Conduct and attend business review meetings, strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings
  8. Represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events
  9. Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities of the Sales Department
  10. Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel
  11. Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOP’s
  12. Leads Tentative Meetings and develops action plans to improve booking pace and productivity
  13. Evaluates new and incremental business opportunities/promotions to maximize revenue
  14. Respond to sales inquiries, initiate new sales, prospects and qualifies leads
  15. Meet or exceed established goals
  16. Administers Group Sales Department expenses
  17. Coordinate group bookings to maximize profits
  18. Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends
  19. Interviews, trains, supervises, counsels, schedules and evaluates Group Sales Managers
  20. Assist in the preparation of required reports
  21. Attend weekly sales meetings and daily line ups
  22. Review meeting planner evaluations to uncover opportunities
  23. Work with various departments to ensure requested services are provided to customers
  24. Perform other duties as assigned
  25. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  26. Remain calm and alert during emergency situations
  27. Interact with other department personnel and venue staff
  28. Make decisions and take actions based on experience
  29. Ensure compliance with all necessary operational policies
  30. Attend mandatory meetings
  31. Participate in community events
  32. Utilize traditional software programs (Microsoft Office, Micros, ADP, Open Table)
  33. Keep work area clean and organized
  34. Ensure confidential documents are kept secure
  35. Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics
  36. Ensure compliance with SLS’s policies and procedures
  37. Demonstrate working knowledge of service standards
  38. Regular attendance is essential
  39. Employees may be required to work varying schedules
  40. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  41. Minimum 5 years of sales leadership experience in similar-sized operation
  42. Knowledge of food and beverage, catering sales, conference services
  43. Proven team leader with high energy and motivation
  44. Intermediate to proficient understanding of computer systems
  45. Ability to spend extended time viewing a computer screen
  46. Gracious, friendly, and fun demeanor
  47. Ability to multitask and have high attention to detail
  48. Maintain positive relationships with other departments
  49. Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  50. Must be able to stand or walk for 8 hours
  51. Observant and quick to respond to situations
  52. Able to twist, tow, reach, bend, climb and carry objects
  53. Excellent communication skills
  54. Ability to work inside and outside
  55. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
  56. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required
  57. Maintain a neat, clean appearance
  58. Additional language ability preferred
  59. Comply with SLS rules and regulations
  60. Potential for disciplinary action for violations
