Director of Group Sales
Under the general guidance of the Director of Sales & Marketing, responsible for directing, coordinating, training, and supervising the Group Sales Managers in all sales-related activities.
Responsible for assisting in the creation of strategies and the direct oversight of the execution of plans and tactics used to focus on increasing direct revenue for the property.
Responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that revenues meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits, and to improve the hotel’s performance in the marketplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage all group sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel
- Develop sales plans and strategies to meet or exceed established revenue and room night goals
- Collaborate with the DOSM to develop rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies
- Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel group sales staff
- Oversee departmental matters related to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws
- Participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings
- Conduct and attend business review meetings, strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings
- Represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events
- Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities of the Sales Department
- Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel
- Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOP’s
- Leads Tentative Meetings and develops action plans to improve booking pace and productivity
- Evaluates new and incremental business opportunities/promotions to maximize revenue
- Respond to sales inquiries, initiate new sales, prospects and qualifies leads
- Meet or exceed established goals
- Administers Group Sales Department expenses
- Coordinate group bookings to maximize profits
- Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends
- Interviews, trains, supervises, counsels, schedules and evaluates Group Sales Managers
- Assist in the preparation of required reports
- Attend weekly sales meetings and daily line ups
- Review meeting planner evaluations to uncover opportunities
- Work with various departments to ensure requested services are provided to customers
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Remain calm and alert during emergency situations
- Interact with other department personnel and venue staff
- Make decisions and take actions based on experience
- Ensure compliance with all necessary operational policies
- Attend mandatory meetings
- Participate in community events
- Utilize traditional software programs (Microsoft Office, Micros, ADP, Open Table)
- Keep work area clean and organized
- Ensure confidential documents are kept secure
- Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics
- Ensure compliance with SLS’s policies and procedures
- Demonstrate working knowledge of service standards
- Regular attendance is essential
- Employees may be required to work varying schedules
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of sales leadership experience in similar-sized operation
- Knowledge of food and beverage, catering sales, conference services
- Proven team leader with high energy and motivation
- Intermediate to proficient understanding of computer systems
- Ability to spend extended time viewing a computer screen
- Gracious, friendly, and fun demeanor
- Ability to multitask and have high attention to detail
- Maintain positive relationships with other departments
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Must be able to stand or walk for 8 hours
- Observant and quick to respond to situations
- Able to twist, tow, reach, bend, climb and carry objects
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work inside and outside
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required
- Maintain a neat, clean appearance
