AECOM has a position for a Distributed Energy Resources Lead to manage and grow a team of solar engineers and microgrid architects in the Energy Engineering Center of Excellence.
This role offers remote work and/or office locations in multiple US Energy offices.
Team Responsibilities:
- Support Director of Engineering in strategic resourcing and recruiting.
- Develop, grow, and supervise a team of diverse engineers on utility-scale renewable projects, microgrid solutions, and distributed energy pursuits.
- Foster a creative and technically advanced team culture.
- Lead engineering execution as technical lead and engineer of record on projects of all sizes.
- Perform engineering calculations to support construction deliverables (specs, reports, drawings).
- Support projects throughout their life cycle (feasibility, design, bidding, construction, start-up, commissioning).
- Present engineering work at client meetings (occasional travel).
- Collaborate with technical leads to integrate mechanical assets for distributed energy solutions.
- Develop design schedules and budgets with Project Engineers and Project Managers.
- Support business development activities related to renewable and decentralized energy.
- Provide input to management on project resourcing and forecasting.
- Monitor team progress to ensure quality, on-time, and on-budget project delivery.
Level-Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead engineer and Engineer of Record on mid- to large-size projects.
- Provide specialized technical input to studies and design.
- Approve and sign off on work.
- Provide technical expertise and present complex solutions to clients.
- Perform quality control reviews of staff work.
- Participate in proposal development.
- Estimate engineering budgets and schedules.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
- 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Design and integration experience with utility-scale renewables and battery storage systems.
- Leadership experience.
- Current Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of leadership/supervisory experience.
- 12+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with software like NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, Helioscope, Homer, ETAP, WindPRO.
- System financial estimation (CAPEX, OPEX), PPA recommendations, ROI calculation.
- MV AC Collection System Design.
- Special design experience (floating PV, offshore wind, flywheel battery systems).
- Knowledge of NEC, IBC, and NFPA 855.
- Deep knowledge of utility practices, industry codes, and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP).
- Interest in developing technical teams.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience on full EPC and Design/Build projects.
