Accumulus Synergy is a nonprofit trade association seeking an experienced attorney to join its legal team as an Associate General Counsel.
This role will partner with Accumulus team members to promote the Accumulus mission and support the organization's growth.
The primary focus is legal support to business and cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, Sales, and Procurement). This role requires an organized, detailed, efficient, and independent individual with strong interest and prior experience in SaaS and software product development, industry-type contract drafting and negotiation.
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate, draft, update, and maintain company contracts (customer, partner, supplier, service agreements, promotional terms).
- Work closely with procurement and vendor risk management to develop, maintain, and operationalize processes related to vendor assessment, on-boarding, risk & performance monitoring, policy compliance, and off-boarding.
- Maintain standard templates and playbooks for customer agreements, providing guidance and help drive contracting processes.
- Manage and escalate negotiation issues and risks.
- Advise various teams (product, engineering, operations, security, HR, marketing) on complying with laws, regulations, best practices, and customer requirements, with attention to copyright, IP, privacy, and AI.
- Provide clear and concise legal advice to stakeholders.
- Proactively improve legal team process efficiency.
- Support business units (HR, Security) in developing and reviewing policies and procedures.
- Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for product and business teams.
- Stay current on legal developments, anticipate future legislation impact, ensure compliance, and advise leadership on changes.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school with active bar license.
- 7+ years legal experience, at least 3+ years in-house; prior law firm experience preferred.
- Significant experience negotiating technology license agreements (SaaS, software, cloud).
- Familiarity with privacy, data security, and healthcare laws/regulations (GDPR, HIPAA).
- Procurement support experience (IT procurement, supplier relationship management, onboarding).
- Experience working directly with product, security, and engineering teams.
- Confidence interacting with senior management and sophisticated vendors.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analysis, and issue resolution skills.
- Understanding of complex commercial/technical issues and business needs.
- Effective organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization skills.
- Self-starter, problem solver; sound judgment.
- Proactive in pursuit of continuous improvement.
