Guardant Health is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to join its IP Team. The role will involve providing IP guidance within the cancer diagnostics field, implementing and executing the company's IP strategy for its growing patent portfolio.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Building and managing a global patent portfolio (preparing and prosecuting applications, identifying patenting areas, evaluating patentability).
- Collaborating with the IP Team to develop patent and IP strategy.
- Overseeing and coordinating with outside counsel (IP protection).
- Conducting infringement and validity analyses, evaluating risk mitigation strategies.
- Developing relationships with scientists and other employees, educating them about patent matters.
- Providing strategic IP counseling to stakeholders (research and product development).
- Supporting litigation and other IP dispute efforts.
- Assisting with licensing, M&A, and other commercial transactions.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD)
- USPTO Registration and state bar membership (California preferred)
- Advanced degree in a relevant scientific field (Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, etc.) preferred
- 5+ years of patent prosecution experience (law firm or in-house)
- Experience with genomic data analysis (NGS assays).
- Understanding of cancer genomics tools and algorithms.
- Familiarity with NGS library preparation methods.
- Strong communication, project management, and interpersonal skills
Compensation
Salary Range: $152,480 - $205,780 (US locations) / $190,600 - $257,220 (Palo Alto/Redwood City, CA)
Salary is based on location and experience.
Work Model: Hybrid; in-office days are required for U.S. employees living within 50 miles of a Guardant facility (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays).
