Under the direction of the director, using a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT), researches, designs, develops, evaluates, and delivers training material for operators including Reliability Coordinators, Balancing Authority Operators, ISO departments and others.
Designs, develops, and delivers NERC continuous education training. Actively engages with customers to ensure training material is relevant to current business needs. Ensures the training program complies with all requirements in NERC and WECC standards.
Leads, designs, develops, and delivers bulk power system training programs. Utilizes knowledge of operating procedures, desktop guides, and NERC and WECC standards. Serves as a liaison to other departments and entities. Creates, maintains, and updates training material with a focus on CAISO Operations and Power Systems foundational development. Ensures material accuracy and relevance to the target audience. Delivers training and supports other subject matter experts (SMEs) in training delivery.
Adheres to the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) utilizing the ADDIE process. Leads the development of new programs and training capabilities, such as expanded CBT offerings, hands-on workshops, and simulator training.
Develops and maintains the training policy and training development methodology. Establishes quality control measures for existing training. Evaluates existing training materials and suggests alternatives for delivery. Leads and supports the development and evolution of the ISO Training Center. Actively monitors and maintains the status of NERC Certification and ensures prompt renewal. Complies with training requirements in NERC and WECC Standards.
Attends mandatory training sessions. Provides guidance, sets daily work priorities for staff. Identifies staffing needs, mentors, coaches, and trains staff. Provides feedback to management. May participate in department hiring activities. May function as a Department Manager in the manager's absence.
Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Education, or related fields. Master's degree preferred. Requires six (6) or more years of related experience, equivalent years of education, and training. Requires NERC Certification, and NERC RC Certification is desired.
Must have Bulk electric system operations experience. Experience in development of new learning programs, training delivery, curriculum development, and communications. Project management experience is preferred. Experience with Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and ADDIE process is preferred. Previous experience as a trainer, preferably in the energy industry.
Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and analytical skills. Ability to effectively communicate complex technical material. Ability to handle a dynamic and changing work environment, and work independently. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Self-motivated, problem-solving skills, and ability to influence others without direct authority.
