About the opportunityJoin our Corporate Division as Legal Counsel in Melbourne to make a real impact every day. We know every conversation, code line, and interface enriches our customers' experiences. Reporting to the Head of Legal, Commercial (APAC), your focus is supporting the Legal function in building a world-class legal and regulatory infrastructure for sustainable business performance. You will assist the Head of Commercial, Legal (APAC) in providing legal advice to business units and central functions, advising the group on legal risks, and providing legal advice and support for all aspects of the group’s activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all aspects of the legal function at Xplor.
- Serve as an integral member of Xplor's Legal team, liaising between departments and anticipating their requirements.
- Provide pragmatic and legally sound guidance, maintaining a culture of excellence with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Provide legal and contractual support for all business areas (commercial contracting, product development, payments, sales, and marketing).
- Take responsibility for substantive legal issues (commercial, payments, privacy, product, intellectual property, regulatory, and corporate).
- Work closely with Legal & Compliance Leadership in monitoring and responding to regulatory changes.
- Reinforce compliance with internal policies and regulations.
- Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments, assessing their impact and advising accordingly.
Location: 100% remote in Australia; Melbourne office available.
Qualifications
- Law degree from a reputable institution; admitted as a solicitor/lawyer (ideally in Australia).
- Prior in-house legal experience (ideally 4-6 years post-qualification).
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and escalate matters when necessary.
- Demonstrable legal negotiation and drafting experience (from a law firm or similar in-house role).
- Broad legal experience (corporate, commercial, payments, product/technology, intellectual property, compliance).
- Ability to "roll up your sleeves" and ensure effective operations, identifying best practices in legal.
- Strong critical thinking, proactive, and curious mindset.
