We are seeking a dynamic Senior Development Officer with major gift fundraising experience to join our growing team. This role focuses on building and maintaining a philanthropic supporter network across Eastern Canada, primarily in the GTA, Montreal, and Ottawa.
As a key member of the Market Development team, you'll identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors to advance CAWST’s mission to provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to 100 million people by 2030.
The position is based in Calgary, with a hybrid work model (Monday-Wednesday in-office, Thursday-Friday flexible). We welcome remote candidates, ideally in the GTA, with strong connections in Eastern Canada’s philanthropic markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of 80-150 major gift donors and prospects.
- Conduct 100-180 quality personal visits per year and submit 30+ fundraising proposals annually.
- Secure major gifts of $50,000+ with a focus on six- and seven-figure contributions.
- Collaborate with Prospect Research to identify and cultivate new donor prospects.
- Develop compelling proposals, grant applications, and solicitation materials.
- Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM system.
- Cultivate long-term donor relationships, and attend events/meetings.
- Align donor priorities with CAWST's mission.
- Share expertise with colleagues and support fundraising efforts.
- Support board members and volunteers in their fundraising efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in major gift fundraising.
- Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills, including proposal writing and complex conversation management.
- Data-driven approach and experience with donor pipeline management.
- Proficiency in CRM systems and donor database management.
- Understanding of philanthropic trends and best practices.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and mission-driven mindset.
- (Preferred) CFRE certification.
- (Preferred) Post-secondary degree or relevant experience.
- (Preferred) Experience securing multi-year pledges, corporate investments, legacy gifts, and blended giving.
- (Preferred) Success in grant writing and institutional funding.
- (Preferred) Familiarity with philanthropic trends in the GTA, Montreal, and Ottawa markets.
- (Preferred) Ability to travel.
