We are seeking a dynamic Senior Development Officer to join our growing team, focused on major gift fundraising in Eastern Canada (GTA, Montreal, Ottawa). You'll build and sustain a network of philanthropic supporters, identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. Your work directly supports CAWST's goal to reach 100 million people with clean water by 2030.
Location: Calgary, AB (hybrid - M-W in-office, Th-F flexible), but welcome remote candidates in GTA with Eastern Canada connections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of 80-150 major gift donors & prospects.
- Conduct 100-180 personal visits annually and submit at least 30 proposals.
- Secure major gifts of $50,000+ (emphasizing six & seven-figure contributions).
- Collaborate with Prospect Research to identify prospects, expanding networks.
- Develop compelling proposals, grant applications, and solicitation materials.
- Maintain accurate donor records in CRM system.
- Cultivate meaningful relationships with donors, prospects, and partners.
- Attend events, meet donors face-to-face, create strategic engagement opportunities.
- Align donor priorities with CAWST's mission.
- Provide insights and strategic recommendations for development strategy.
- Share expertise and support fundraising efforts at events.
- Engage and support board members/volunteers in fundraising.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years major gift fundraising experience, proven success in securing six-figure+ donations.
- Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills (proposals, complex conversations).
- Data-driven approach, robust donor pipeline management.
- CRM system and donor database management proficiency.
- Knowledge of philanthropic trends and best practices.
- Collaborative, adaptable, mission-driven mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- CFRE certification (asset).
- Relevant post-secondary degree/equivalent experience.
- Experience in multi-year pledges, corporate investments, legacy gifts, blended giving.
- Grant writing/institutional funding experience.
- Familiarity with GTA, Montreal, Ottawa philanthropic trends.
- Ability to travel for donor meetings, events, and team activities.
