About the role We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, our first in-house hire. This is a fast-paced role focused on practical legal advice supporting team success.
Initial focus: Commercial law, supporting sales & contract renewals.
Future growth areas: Privacy (CCPA, GDPR), product, security compliance (SOC 2).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full contract lifecycle (draft, review, maintain commercial documents).
- Support Sales, Customer Success, and Customer Support teams.
- Implement a contract lifecycle management tool.
- Develop scalable legal processes, resources, and training.
- Ensure privacy program compliance (GDPR).
- Stay updated on relevant regulations, standards.
- Support Circle's business initiatives in a compliant manner.
Required Skills & Experience
- 4-6+ years of in-house legal experience, ideally at a startup/growth-stage tech/SaaS company.
- Strong work ethic, team-player mindset, adaptability.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with autonomy.
- Excellent written & oral communication skills.
- JD from accredited law school, relevant jurisdiction bar admission.
- Strong alignment with company values.
- Proficient in English (CEFR Level C2/ILR Level 5).
Bonus Points
- Knowledge of GRC best practices.
- Experience helping SaaS products achieve security compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
Compensation $170,000 - $200,000 USD per year (negotiable).
