Opportunity at a Glance The Academic Support Advisor I role promotes student success through accurate and responsive advising in academics, registration, persistence, and the student experience. Advisors build a supportive environment, helping students achieve their goals by providing excellent customer service, identifying student needs, and mentoring them on academic issues.
Advisors collaborate with university support teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of student inquiries. They act as role models, fostering a culture consistent with the university's mission, vision, and purpose.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with course registration, degree/practicum applications (per program).
- Advocate for advising needs to support student enrollment, engagement, and completion.
- Advise on university policies, procedures, program requirements, and academic matters.
- Monitor students, proactively identifying at-risk scenarios and improving academic success strategies.
- Utilize systems to track enrollment, persistence, and graduation information.
- Document all interactions in appropriate systems.
- Coach students to overcome persistence/graduation barriers, making resource referrals when necessary.
- Maintain thorough understanding of academic programs, policies, procedures, institutional policies, federal, and state regulations.
- Promote student self-service tools.
- Engage students through various communication methods (virtual/video advising, calls, proactive outreach).
- Identify opportunities and solutions to improve existing methods.
- Collaborate with other departments for optimal student support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1+ year Higher Education experience
- Outstanding customer service skills (1+ years in customer service, academic advising, or related fields)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Self-starter with strong prioritization skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet applications, and databases
- Experience with Student Information Systems (a plus)
Schedule (Mandatory)
- Tuesday-Friday: 11AM-8PM CST
- Saturday: 8AM-5PM CST
- Sunday-Monday: Off
Salary
The expected salary range for this position is $18.15 to $32.86. Actual pay will vary based on experience, training, location, licensures, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibilities.Benefits
