Opportunity at a Glance The Academic Support Advisor I role promotes student success through accurate and responsive advising in academics, registration, persistence, and the student experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with course registration, ensuring understanding of degree and practicum requirements.
- Advocate for advising needs contributing to successful enrollment, engagement, and completion.
- Advise on university policies, procedures, program requirements, and academic matters.
- Monitor students proactively to identify at-risk scenarios and improve academic success strategies.
- Utilize systems to track enrollment, persistence, and graduation information.
- Document all interactions in institutional systems.
- Coach students on alternatives to overcome persistence barriers and refer to resources.
- Maintain understanding of academic programs, policies, and procedures including institutional, federal, and state regulations.
- Promote student self-service tools during advising.
- Engage students via various communication methods (virtual/video advising, calls, outreach).
- Identify opportunities and solutions to improve current methods.
- Collaborate with other departments for optimal student experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- 1+ year of experience in Higher Education Required
- Mandated hours: Tuesday-Friday: 11AM-8PM CST; Saturday: 8AM-5PM CST; Sunday-Monday: Off
- Full-time position only
- Outstanding customer service skills (1+ years)
- High level of interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-starter with effective prioritization
- PC skills in Microsoft Office, internet applications, and database
- Experience with Student Information Systems a plus
Salary
Salary range is $18.15 to $24.04.
