About the role: We are seeking a Canadian lawyer to support Trupanion’s Canadian insurance operations. This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Provide authoritative legal services meeting commercial and strategic business needs.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts related to insurance operations.
- Advise on legal risks and mitigation strategies and escalate governance issues as required.
- Manage subsidiary corporate governance and compliance across all Canadian provinces, including Quebec.
- Conduct regulatory research and support evolving compliance matters in Canadian jurisdictions.
- Develop legal and compliance training, policies, standards, and checklists.
- Support vendor management, sales, complaint handling, licensing, and cross-functional compliance projects.
Qualifications:
- 3–6 years post-call legal experience, ideally in corporate/commercial law and regulatory compliance for property & casualty insurance.
- LLB or JD from an accredited Canadian university and call to the Bar in a Canadian province or territory.
- Experience at a top-tier law firm and track record of pragmatic, risk-based legal advice.
- Strong communication, collaboration, time management, and attention to detail.
- French bilingualism, data privacy certification, and cross-border (U.S.) contract experience are assets.
