Field Service Engineer
Job Duties and responsibilitiesA Field Service Engineer manages customer claims, raises RMAs, and ensures RMA Response targets are met. Provides on-site support, repairs, technical support, and other service activities at customer sites.
Management may reassign duties.
Diagnoses hydraulic system malfunctions (leaks, pressure loss, faulty valves, etc.).
Repairs and replaces problematic components (if feasible and customer-approved).
Resolves customer quality concerns.
Ensures strong communication between customers and office staff.
Issues RMAs with clear failure modes.
Uses 8D format to resolve product issues.
Communicates quality requirements according to the customer supplier quality manual.
Assists with returns and RGA reports for line rejects, ensuring root cause analysis.
Works with internal departments to resolve quality issues.
Identifies claim trends and prioritizes efforts to reduce costs.
Participates in design solutions for warranty issues.
Coordinates and supports warranty agreements with customers and HydraForce Sales.
Travel Requirements
Able to travel full-time within assigned region (extended stays possible). 90-100% travel within region. 1-3 hour drive, some locations further.
Quality, Environmental Health, and Safety
Reads, understands, and participates in developing Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety policy.
Takes reasonable care for personal safety.
Cooperates with company and customer to maintain Quality, Environmental Health and Safety standards.
Reports risks, accidents, or dangerous occurrences.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lifts/moves up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Customer manufacturing environments: often warm or cool, moderate to high noise levels.
Exposure to oil, oil odor, and sealants (e.g., Loctite).
Requires safety glasses, latex gloves, and safety shoes.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years field service experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 8+ years of equivalent experience in manufacturing environment
- Customer-focused
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- NFPA certification (preferred)
- Fluid mechanics background or education
- Understanding of hydraulic circuits
- Basic computer skills
- Fluency in English
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong listening and collaboration skills
- Understanding of hydraulic schematics
- Able to lift 50 lbs
- Strong work ethic
- Q-pulse reporting
- 6-sigma analytical competency
Salary
US base salary: $72,000 - $82,000. Individual pay based on experience, role complexity, location, etc.
